Being comfortable on their home field has played a large role in the Redbirds' success.
The award-winning Marian Kneer Softball Stadium officially opened April 3, 1999, ushering in a new era in Illinois State softball that continues to bring winning traditions and successful years to the program. Originally known as the Redbird Softball Complex (1999-2008), the facility was renamed the Marian Kneer Softball Stadium July 25, 2008, following a generous $250,000 donation by Dr. Marian Kneer to the ISU Athletics Department. Dr. Kneer is a longtime supporter of the Redbird softball program and of the Illinois State Athletics Department.
The Marian Kneer Softball Stadium replaced historic McCormick Field, the home of the Redbirds for 31 years.
The complex, which is located on the east side of Adelaide Street and adjacent to other athletics facilities, has a natural grass playing surface, lights, convenient parking, outstanding media facilities and excellent seating for fans. The move has Redbird softball closer to its lockerrooms, training facilities and offices.
